Pool safety

Scary how chlorine cannot kill all the bacteria that is prevalent in swimming pools. A reminder to stay safe while enjoying the summer swimming. Also with a simple ozone system for your family pool and there won’t be a worry about this kind of an outbreak.

Winterization of Ozone Equipment

In areas of the world where the outside temperature drops considerably during winter months, problems can arise if steps are not taken prepare for such extreme conditions. Typically these problems will not become a threat until the temperature drops to about 20°F or below. Electronics can be destroyed, air dryer media desiccant can drop in effectiveness and water in pipes will tend to expand and split pipes.

The purpose of this post is to recommend some simple steps you can take to ensure your ozone generator will remain safe when down for the winter, allowing you to quickly resume use when the weather heats up.

Ozone Generator Shut Down & Storage

  • Begin by shutting down the equipment and letting any heated components cool down.
  • Disconnect main power.
  • Disconnect and air lines and electrical cords from your ozone generator.
  • Bring the generator indoors to a temperature controlled environment. This is recommended if the equipment is normally located outside in an open environment.
  • Wrap the ozone generator in a thick plastic bag to ensure that no moisture can get to your generator’s critical components while it is not operating. Some ozone generators come with a heat regenerative air dryer built in which requires the system to be energized continuously to prevent the media from over saturation.
  • Drain your vacuum break water. Most of our ozone generators utilize a water filled vacuum break as a secondary defense against water backflow when the pumps shut down. This technology requires this tubes to be filled with water during use.

Oxygen Concentrator Shut Down & Storage

  • Begin by shutting down the equipment and letting any heated components cool down.
  • Disconnect main power.
  • Disconnect and air lines and electrical cords from your oxygen concentrator.
  • Bring the concentrator indoors to a temperature controlled environment. This is recommended if the equipment is normally located outside in an open environment.
  • Wrap the ozone generator in a thick plastic bag to ensure that no moisture can get to your generator’s critical components while it is not operating. A couple large garbage bags doubled up will work fine as a cover. Some ozone generators come with heat regenerative air dryer built in that require the system to be heated at all times in order to the desiccant media from taking on to much moisture and over saturating.

Contact Tanks

  • Drain water from contact tanks.
  • Close off water lines that supply water to and from the equipment pad.

Vacuum Breaks

  • Drain water from the reservoirs.

Ozone Destructs & Water Traps

  • Disconnect power from the OCD11 or OCD21 destruct.
  • Drain water from the reservoir of the water trap.
